All I know
concretely is that I have had a lifelong love affair with the soul.
I guess everybody's grandmother, aunt or uncle has intoned at least
once that the eyes are the window of the soul. I would study the
people that I met and gaze deeply into each new set of eyes, studying
and realizing the person, and everywhere there was a place for a child
to lay a pen or pencil, the world gazed back on me.
I was born in Rogue River, Oregon and raised in California...but
really none of that is as important as the books of art that I was
exposed to early on. Works of the Masters that reflected the
emotion of living breathing flesh into the canvases they painted.
They saw and as I saw...further and deeper. Add a smattering of
Vargas and it explains a good deal of my work, which I think of as
quite original in it's own conception surrealistic realistic art form
that somehow seems 'my own.'
My sincerest compliment has 'been,' when my work is studied by others
they interject their emotions into my creation. They ponder what
each piece is 'thinking' and offer their suggestions as to the secrets
they unmask. I listen in fascination as they too see the 'life'
that I have portrayed in my work. No longer canvas streaked with
acrylic paint, but pieces of humanity...reflected for their study.
I do not follow the standard dictates of easel and artistic trappings.
I paint under sometimes difficult conditions and hold even my largest
pieces upon my lap, using my body to balance as I work around my
canvas. Sometimes painting upside down, (That is my work!
Not myself, for I have not mastered vertical suspension) even helping
me see 'deeper' into my endeavors.
If you find pleasure in my work, I am pleased. I paint dreams
and deeds that lay beneath of surface of our everyday existence, into
my soul and yours and lay it out the way I 'feel' are actually
the people that we all are in our deepest hearts and minds.
